David Bippus
Memorial services will be held for David Bippus, 80, a lifelong resident of Galt.
He was born to Samuel and Magdelena Bippus on May 17, 1927 in Wing, North Dakota. He and his wife, Virginia, were active in farming operations.
His wife Virginia and his daughter Dava Lee Force preceded him in death.
Surviving him are sisters, Ruby Nordstrom of Lodi, Margaret Susich of Elk Grove; and brothers, Walter Bippus of Lodi and Robert Bippus of Fresno.
Graveside services will be held at Galt Cemetery on Saturday at 2 p.m.
Tammy E. Retherford
Tammy Elaine Retherford, 44, passed away on April 19, 2008 due to a battle with cancer.
Tammy fought courageously for almost two years. She was born on Sept. 16, 1963 in Vallejo. Tammy grew up in Benicia moving to Galt in 1991.
Tammy is survived by her husband, Mike; daughter, Jessica Biehl (Tim); sons, Cragen, Drew, Austin and Ian, all of Galt. She is also survived by her parents, Jay and Eloise Wanlass; brother Dirk, (Tirzah) Wanlass, all of Benicia.
Tammy was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, April 25, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 927 Vintage Oak, Galt.
Rosalyn B. Johnson
Rosalyn “Diz” Beach Johnson, 69, died on Jan. 13, 2008. She was born on Dec. 29, 1939.
Diz, as family and friends knew her, was raised east of Galt on Ivie Road off Simmerhorn Road, one of 17 children of Al and Regina Beach. She attended Galt schools.
Surviving are her five children, Kim, Kelly, Craig, Susan and Jeri-Lyn, and nine grandchildren.
Diz was outspoken, funny, understanding and sweet. She worked at numerous jobs during her lifetime and was a medical assistant and also taught that subject in a local junior college in Long Beach, where she lived for the last 45 years.
An annual family reunion is being held at Oak Grove Regional Park on Eight Mile Road just off I-5 on Saturday, April 19 at the boathouse in her memory.
Billie H. Voyles
Billie H. Voyles, 55, of Galt died Thursday, April 10 at home after a lengthy illness with her family by her side. She was born in Stayton, Ore., on Sept. 19, 1952.
Mrs. Voyles moved to Galt in 1973 and was a member of First Baptist Church of Galt. She worked as an office manager and enjoyed being a mother. She also enjoyed crafts, cooking and reading.
Surviving are her husband, Lonnie Voyles of Galt; son, Robert Lewallen; daughter, Mari-lyn Ricks of Texas; grandsons, Matthew Lewallen, Donovan and Devon Ricks; and granddaughter, Wilona Ricks.
A private service will be held with Gary Odell officiating. No viewing is planned.
Darrel Akins
Darrel Akins, 50, of Galt died on April 21, 2008 of a sudden heart attack. He was born on Dec. 19, 1947 in Merced.
A resident of the area for 21 years, he grew up in Merced and Hayward and lived in Fremont and Castro Valley before settling in Galt to raise his family. He was employed rebuilding performance engines and was owner of Miller & Hodges Machine for 30 years. He had served in the U.S. Army and enjoyed auto racing, golf and spending time with family.
Surviving him are his loving wife of 40 years, Linda of Galt; daughters, Jennifer Jeffries of Galt, Kristi Akins of Sacramento; son-in-law, Maurice Jeffries of Galt; and grandchildren, Ian Jeffries and Noah Jeffries, both of Galt.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, April 25 at Horizon Community Church, with Kevin Brown officiating.
