Alfred J. Denier
Alfred J. Denier, 84, of Galt died Feb. 19 in Lodi. He was born in Galt on Sept. 30, 1923 and was a lifelong resident.
He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps in World War II and was a local cattleman. He was a member of St. Christopher’s Catholic Church, Sacramento Helvetia Verein, Sacramento Swiss Sports Club, Lodi Memorial Hospital Foundation Board, and was a Galt High School Board Trustee. He also served on the Galt elementary school Board of Trustees for 33 years, including service as president.
Surviving him are his wife of 60 years, Rosa Denier; sons, Larry Denier of Goleta, Richard Denier of Carmel, Fred Denier of Galt and their families; seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Rosemary; granddaughter, Linsay Rose; and brothers, Louis and Walter.
Viewing will take place at Ben Salas Funeral Home, 149 Fourth Street in Galt on Thursday, Feb. 21 from 2 to 7 p.m. with Rosary at 7 p.m.
Mass will be held Friday, Feb. 22 at St. Christopher’s Church at 10 a.m. with committal at Galt Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
JoEllen B. Dickinson
JoEllen B. Dickinson, 81, of Galt passed away Feb. 3, 2008.
Surviving her are her loving husband of 61 years, Donald H. Dickinson; son, Joel Dickinson; daughter, DeAnna (David) Cosat; and granddaughter, Amanda Cosat.
A memorial service was held Feb. 9 at Grace Assembly of God in Stockton.
Alice L. Clark
Alice Laura Clark, 75, died Feb. 5, 2008 in Gardnerville, Nev., following a long illness. She was born in Du Quoin, Ill., on May 2, 1932, the first daughter of Jonathan F. Bennett and Z. Marie O’Dell.
With her parents and older brother Edward, she moved to Michigan’s upper peninsula, where the family homesteaded 80 acres of woodland. Alice went to school in Michigan and Chicago, where the family lived during World War II. Returning to Michigan, she married Glen Darrow, moved to Detroit, and worked for Michigan Bell Telephone. The couple had one daughter, Diane.
Later, Alice married Don DuBlanc, moved to California, and worked for the State of California. They had one son, Donald Paul DuBlanc. The senior DuBlanc died and Alice married Gerald (Jerry) Clark in Sacramento, and moved to Herald where they raised horses and pheasants. After she retired from state service, Jerry died and she moved to Nevada.
Alice was active in community service, held office in Herald Community Club, and supported Neighborhood Watch, Arcohe and Galt High School events. She enjoyed skiing when she was young, loved cats and horses, hunting, fishing and camping with her family, attending Bluegrass and Cowboy Poetry Festivals, and Mule Days. Next to her ranch home, the Sierra Nevada Mountains were her favorite place. She called it “The High Country.” A great organizer, she often arranged camping trips for family and friends.
She leaves her son, Donald DuBlanc (wife Gail) and grandsons, Brian DuBlanc of Topaz Ranch, Nev., and Michael DuBlanc of Monterey; stepson, Michael Clark (wife Nancy) with step-grandsons Clinton, Justin and Joseph Clark, all of Topaz Ranch, Nev.; daughter, Diane Neasz (husband Ken), two grandsons, Steve and Sean Maxey, four great-granddaughters, all of Michigan; brother, David Bennett (wife Susan); sister, Jean Hess (husband John), all of Herald; nephews, Jeffery Hess (wife Kristen) and Jason Hess, all of Sacramento; nieces, Joan Angela Hess of Sherman Oaks, Jenniferhess-Pearson (husband John) with three grand nieces; niece-in-law, Lisa Hess; grand nephews, Ben Hess, Andrew Hess, Chris Rogers-Hess and Richard Herbiceck (wife Heather), with two great-grand nieces, all of southern California; grand niece Jennifer Corntassel (husband Adam) with one great-grand niece, all attached to the U.S. Navy at Port Hueneme; three nieces, Mickey, Melody and Marla Edwards of Oregon; step-nephews Dan and Eugene Arters; cousins, Charles Bennett (wife Millie) of Fallon, Nev., and Gordon, Carolyn and Beth Bennett of Michigan; and dear friend, Karen Manrow of Wellington, Nev.
In addition to her parents, an older brother and sister, two younger brothers, two nephews and three husbands preceded her in death.
Funeral services were held Feb. 13 at Deneri’s Funeral Home in Jackson. Burial followed at Sunset View Cemetery in Jackson.
Elsie L. Pratt
Elsie Louise Pratt, 77, a Galt resident for the past 20 years, passed away in Lodi on Feb. 13, 2008. Elsie was born in San Francisco on Sept. 3, 1930 through the union of William Laverne Pratt and Zada Florence Miller.
Elsie is preceded in death by her sister Barbara, and is survived by her sister Virginia (Gingie) and her brother William (Junior).
Elsie is survived by her four beloved children, Robert, Rhonda, Michael and Steven; nine grandchildren, Tinisha, Christina, Alicia, Robert, Michael, Steven, Alysia, Megan and Justin; and great-grandchild, Clayton.
Elsie was a very strong-willed woman, exhibiting her independence always. She leaves behind many loving caregivers, doctors and nurses at Royal Oaks Beverly Living in Galt, her residence for the past five years. She always looked forward to 2 o’clock bingo games and socializing with her roommates. Elsie shared her love of music with her children while they were young and more recently she truly enjoyed sharing her music with anyone within listening distance.
All who knew and loved her will miss Elsie. She is now in a better place and finally at peace. Her spirit will be with us always.
Remembrance: A time for family and friends to reflect and share memories will be held Feb. 26 from 2 to 3:30 p.m. at Devotions Mausoleum, Historic Lodi Cemetery, 5750 East Pine Street in Lodi.
Christopher P. Masdonati
Christopher P. Masdonati, 20, of Galt died as the result of a motorcycle accident in Silverdale, Wash., on Feb. 13, 2008. He was born in Sacramento on March 24, 1987.
He was stationed in Washington as a U.S. Marine. He enjoyed video games, watching football, playing with his son, his dogs, fishing, riding ATVs and riding his motorcycle.
Suviving him are his parents, Lori and Roy Masdonati of Galt; son, Matthew Masdonati of Fresno; sister, Tawna Masdonati of Reno; grandparents, Darlene and Gilbert Koepplin of Acampo; uncles, Ranch, Kevin and Carey Koepplin; aunts, Shari, Sue and Darla Koepplin; nephew, Kamden; and seven cousins.
Funeral service will be held at Ben Salas Funeral Home on Friday, Feb. 22 at 2 p.m., with committal at Galt Cemetery.
