Jacob `Chuck’ Vogler
Jacob “Chuck” Vogler died on Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2007 after a lengthy illness. He was visiting Honolulu with his family when he died.
Chuck had lived in Galt for 7˝ years and had become active with the Galt Friends of the Library, serving as president the past year. He also volunteered for Meals on Wheels in Galt.
He retired four years ago after three years as an English teacher at Sacramento High School. He spent 20 years as an English teacher at Bishop Montgomery High School in Torrance in Southern California where he and his wife of 35 years, Marilyn Vogler, lived for 20 years before coming to Galt in 2000. He was a speech and debate coach for Bishop Montgomery High School for 20 years and was awarded the Hall of Fame of Speech Coaches by the Western Bay Forensix League.
Surviving are his wife, Marilyn; children, Angie (Darren), Figg, Richard Vogler and DJ (Shella) Dewhurst; and four grandchildren.
A mass will be said in his honor at 9 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 27 at St. Christopher’s Catholic Church in Galt. Burial will be private.
Helen Bentz
Helen Bentz of Wallace, longtime resident of both Galt and Lodi, passed away in Wallace on Dec. 20, 2007 at the age of 95. Mrs. Bentz was born in American Falls, Idaho on July 3, 1912.
Her family moved to McMinnville, Ore., when she was young. She attended school there. After graduation, she worked as a secretary for an insurance company, later moving to Salem where she worked for the State of Oregon as a keypunch operator.
There, she met and married the love of her life, Ben Bentz on June 1, 1947 in Salem. They moved to Galt in 1954 and then to Lodi in 1984. They were founding members of Galt Bible Church. They later attended Grace Community Fellowship Church in Woodbridge where they were very active.
Until recently, she attended Senior Day Care at Hutchins Street Square. Mrs. Bentz enjoyed baking, cooking and ironing. She loved the Lord and was a dedicated prayer warrior for her family, whom she loved dearly.
Mrs. Bentz is survived by her two children, Nita (Dean) Bennett of Wallace and Kenneth (Janet ) Bentz of Salem, Ore.; five grandchildren, Shelly, Jesse, Joshua, Elissa and Ben; three step-grandchildren, Kathy, Niesel and Bambi; 17 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ben Bentz; three sisters, Clara Stinnett, Emma Perkins and Pauline Isaak; four brothers, Al, Dan, Ted and Ed Isaak.
Friends are invited to visit Thursday, Dec. 27 from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m. at Lodi Funeral Home.
Services will be held Friday, Dec. 28 at 10 a.m. at Grace Community Fellowship Church in Woodbridge, with committal immediately following.
