Phil Olson
- Phil Olson
Phillips Alexander (Phil) Olson, 88, of Galt died at his home on Dec. 3, 2007. He was born April 1, 1919 in San Francisco.
Phil resided in Galt for the past 15 years. He grew up and attended school in Alameda and raised his family there. Later he lived and worked in San Jose, Oxnard and Stockton. He joined the army in 1942 and served in North Africa, Italy, France and Germany. He separated from the army in 1945.
During his lifetime, he was a carpenter, a real estate broker and a loan officer with savings and loan offices in Northern California.
Surviving Phil are his wife, Llanona Olson of Galt; sons, Steven (Sharon) Olson of Kelseyville and Rob (Willie) Olson of Marysville; daughter, Michelle (Jon) McClain of Redding; daughter-in-law Debbie Goni of Lodi; grandchildren, Jesse, Paul, Ben, Jill, David, Lorree, and John (Stacey) Olson, Ryan, Eric and Casey McClain, Kevin Acosta, Erin Shimomotto; and great grandchildren, Gemma Olson and Daphne Shimomotto.
Preceding Phil in death were son Marty Olson of Lodi and grandchild Mark Olson of Marysville.
A memorial service to honor Phil will be held at 11 a.m. Dec. 16 at Galt Seventh-day Adventist Church, 619 Myrtle Ave. (209-745-1977). Remembrance donations may be made to your favorite charity.

Shizuko Giles
Shizuko Giles, 85, of Galt and former resident of Acampo, passed away Dec. 4, 2007 in a Lodi hospital. She was born Feb. 10, 1922 in Nagasaki, Japan.
Mrs. Giles was a homemaker and member of Galt First Baptist Church. She enjoyed cooking, gardening and spending time with family and friends.
Surviving her are a son, Torby Giles of Florida; three grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
Her husband, Cecil Giles, preceded her in death in 1997.
A chapel service was held Dec. 7 at Lodi Funeral Home, followed by interment at Cherokee Memorial Park Cemetery.

Al Novo
Alvin “Al” F. Novo of Herald lost his courageous battle with ALS (Lou Gehrig’s disease) on Dec. 6, 2007 at home with his loving family by his side. He was born in Ryde, Calif., on Nov. 20, 1928 to Joseph and Emilia Novo.
He graduated from Rio Vista High School where he excelled in football and track, winning the football championship in 1946. He married his beloved wife of 58 years, Paula Norton in 1949. They have lived in the Holt, Lodi and Herald areas throughout the years. They had two children, Linda and Joe.
Al loved farming, his ranch and caring for his beautiful yard and home, in addition to spending time with his family and many friends. He was also a roofer for more than 30 years, starting his own roofing business in 1973. After retirement, he helped to build and sell six homes on his 50-acre property, his last and final home being the one he shared with his wife.
Al is survived by his wife, Paula; daughter, Linda Pinkham and husband Doug; son, Joe Novo and wife Robin; sister, Isabel Fevereiro; brothers, Joe and Albert Novo; grandchildren, Stephanie Traphagan, Russell Pinkham, Chad Pinkham, Joe Novo; great grandchildren, John and Andrew Traphagan, Cobey Pinkham and Madison Novo.
A funeral service was held Tuesday at Lodi Funeral Home with committal following at Lodi Memorial Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations made to Sutter Hospice, 7300 Folsom Blvd., Ste. 100, Sacramento, CA 95826; or ALSA Greater Sacramento Chapter, 2717 Cottage Way, Ste. 8, Sacramento, CA 95825.

Pauline Rainbolt-Whitford
Pauline Rainbolt-Whitford, 93, of Galt passed away Dec. 7, 2007. She was born July 3, 1914 and raised in Cordell, Okla.
In the 1940s, she taught in a one-room schoolhouse in Oklahoma, later spending her time as a devoted housewife. She was a member of the VFW, Grange, Moose and Flirty Girties. She enjoyed quilting, crochet, dancing every Saturday, crossword puzzles, embroidery, knitting, sewing, collecting antiques, cooking, traveling and reading.
Surviving are her husband, Quentin (Doc) Whitford; five children, Arletta Rink of Norman, Okla., Vanetta Bennett of Cottage Grove, Ore., Donald Whitford of Vallejo, Ronald Whitford of Acampo, and Susan Goehner of Jamestown, N.D.; a brother, Raymond Rainbolt of Indiana; a sister, Mildred Rowe of Oklahoma; 11 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Preceding her in death were eight sisters, one brother, one grandchild and one great-grandchild.
Services were held Tuesday at the Ben Salas Funeral Home in Galt, followed by a gathering of family and friends at the Grange Hall.
Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Pauline Whitford to Hospice of San Joaquin, 3888 Pacific Ave., Stockton, CA 95204.
Arrangements were handled by Ben Salas Funeral Home.

James T. Wayne
James T. Wayne, 65, of Acampo died Dec. 9, 2007 in a Stockton hospital. He was born Feb. 13, 1942 in Oakland.
Mr. Wayne had moved from the Bay Area to Acampo 26 years ago. He enjoyed movies, football, trips to Tahoe and family.
Surviving are his wife of 50 years, Judy Wayne of Acampo; sons, Rick (Suzanne) Wayne, David (Kelli) Wayne, Brian (Maura) Wayne, all of Vacaville; five grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; and brother, John Wayne of Sonoma.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 15 at Ben Salas Funeral Home in Galt. No viewing is planned.
