Obituaries for October 3, 2007

Thomas Andrew Metcalf
- Juanita Mae Sanders
Juanita Mae Sanders lost her long battle with cancer on Sept. 20, 2007, at the age of 84.
She was born in Sampsil, Okla., on Aug. 11, 1923, just in time to grow up in the “Dust Bowl” and the “Great Depression”.
Like so many of the people from the Panhandle of Oklahoma, she came to California with her family. She traveled down Highway 99 when it was still just a general road.
She was an amazingly strong woman. She survived the passing of three husbands, raised her children and received a teaching degree after turning 40, and still managed to help many others.
In her “retirement years” she loved to sit on the front patio and talk to neighbors passing by or talk on the phone to friends and family. Everyone loved to hear her stories of a lifetime of living. She spent her “quiet time” doing oil painting.
Three sons, three daughters, eight grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and her brother survive her.
She was preceded in death by one granddaughter.
She was loved and admired by all who knew her.
A small service at Ben Salas Funeral Home in Galt on Friday, Sept. 28 with the Reverend Steve Rutledge officiating, followed by a family and friends get together Saturday afternoon at “the farm.”
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the charity of choice.
