Jeannene H. Reynoso
Jeannene Harness Reynoso, 73, of Herald died July 2, 2007. She was born on Feb. 12, 1934 in Detroit, Mich., and grew up in the Appalachian Mountains of Tennessee, where she was raised by her grandparents and received her early education, studying by kerosene lamps for grade school and high school because there was no electricity in the region.
She worked as a nanny, a waitress and a clerk prior to working for the FBI in Washington, D.C., where she met her husband, Cruz in 1954. They were married in Huntsville, Tenn., in 1956 by Jeannene’s grandfather, Rev. Andrew Jackson Chambers, beginning a 50-year union with Cruz Reynoso, retired California Supreme Court Justice.
After living in Albuquerque, N.M. and El Centro, the couple moved to Herald in 1976 where she was very active at Herald Baptist Church as a choir member and helper at VBS. She was a supporting parent for activities at Arcohe School and Galt High School where their four children attended.
She was active in community service projects by driving for meals-on-wheels, working with Herald 4-H and Galt FFA, supporting the Sacramento County Fair youth activities, building Herald Park, and making improvements to Arcohe School and Herald Post Office. She was like a second mom to droves of kids and young people who spent time at the Reynoso Ranch, swimming and playing with the Reynoso children.
Surviving are her husband of 50 years, Justice Cruz Reynoso of Herald; daughters, Trina Heter and husband Duane of Loma Rica, Ranene Royer and husband Bob of Winters; sons, Len ReidReynoso and wife Kym of Galt and Rondall (Rondy) and wife Pamela of Pineville, La.; plus 16 grandchildren.
Funeral services were held July 7 at Herald Baptist Church with Pastor Mel Taylor officiating. Interment followed at Galt Cemetery. Ben Salas Funeral Home handled arrangements.
Barbara M. Lenci
Barbara Mildred Lenci, 85, of Modesto died July 7, 2007. She was born on July 9, 1922 in Sacramento.
Mrs. Lenci had resided in Modesto and Lodi before spending the next 77 years in Thornton as a homemaker and a member of the Catholic Church. She enjoyed stitchery, cooking and cats. Mildred was a loving and devoted wife and mother.
Her husband, Mario Lenci, preceded her in death.
Surviving are her brothers and sisters-in-law, James and Dorothy Miller and Dilio and Betty Lenci; sons and daughters-in-law, Ronald and Patricia Lenci, Stan and Nancy Lenci; grandchildren, Shawn and Jaime Lenci, Ronda and Martin Scheibal, Shannon and Brian Lott, Brenda Port; and great-grandchildren, Cameron and Taylor Lott.
A Catholic service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, July 11 at Ben Salas Funeral Home in Galt after viewing and the Rosary at 9 and 10 a.m., respectively.
Committal will take place at East Lawn Mortuary in Sacramento.
Vernal M. Horn
Vernal M. Horn, 85, passed away peacefully with his family at his side July 6, 2007 at his home in Galt.
Horn worked as a chemist for Westvaco and Standard Oil from 1942-1959 in the Bay Area. He and his family then moved to Turlock where he lived until the death of his wife in 2006.
He spent many years working as a building contractor. He was a lifelong member of the LDS church and served in many capacities, including bishop of the Turlock and Rodeo wards.
Surviving him are his sister, Bobetta Brown of Hayden, Idaho; children, LaVern (Jay) Johnson of Moses Lake, Wash., Nancy James of Hemet, Annette (Ken) Reed of Galt, Gerry (Roxanne ) Horn of Buckley, Wash., and Bryce (Deborah) Brewer of Denair; 17 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Emanuel and Aleen Horn; brothers, George and Dale Horn; sister, Clara Holloway; wife, Ruth; daughter, Debbie; and granddaughter, Tammy.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, July 13 at the LDS Church, 4250 Geer Road, Turlock, with viewing at 10 a.m.

Funeral services are under the direction of Eaton Family Funeral Service of Modesto.
