William Copeland
William Westley Copeland (89) of Galt passed away peacefully in Lodi on March 25, 2007 after a brief illness. At the time of his passing, he was surrounded by his loving family.
Mr. Copeland was born in Idaho Falls, Idaho on Aug. 14, 1917. He married Gertrude Menard on Dec. 2, 1964. He had served in World War II and was honorably discharged. He worked for the Department of Agriculture as an inspector until his retirement in 1982.
He spent his retirement years in Galt, close to his family. His last years were spent living with Jeff and Amy Gates and their family. He enjoyed riding his scooter around the olive orchard and was looking forward to the first harvest next year. He will be greatly missed.
Surviving him are four stepdaughters, five stepsons, and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great great-grandchildren.
His wife, Gertrude Copeland, preceded him in death in 1994.
No funeral services will be held at his request.
Damon M. Avila
Damon M. Avila (36) of Galt, and former resident of Sacramento, passed away unexpectedly March 31, 2007 at his residence. He was born Feb. 1, 1971 in Sacramento to Manuel and Mary Avila.
Damon attended and was a 1989 graduate of J.F. Kennedy High School in Sacramento. He worked for the maintenance department at Rio Linda School District for 13 years. He was a member of St. Christopher’s Catholic Church. Damon was an avid sports fan and enjoyed camping, fishing, boating, trips to the Santa Cruz Boardwalk and spending time with family and friends, especially his nephew and twin nieces. He will best be remembered as a loving and caring son, brother and uncle, and will be sadly missed.
Surviving him are his wife, Linda Ruiz of Elk Grove; parents, Manuel and Mary Avila of Galt; sister, Melissa Rocha and brother-in-law Shawn of Galt; grandmother, Mary Avila of Tracy; nephew, Ryan Rocha and twin nieces, Kayley and Taylor Rocha of Galt; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
A church service will be held on Wednesday, April 11 at 10 a.m. at St. Christopher’s Catholic Church, followed by interment at the Galt/Arno District Cemetery.
A rosary will be held Tuesday, April 10 at 7 p.m. at Lodi Funeral Home, with visitation from 12 to 8 p.m.
Memorial contributions can be sent to the charity of donor’s choice.
Larry Weber
Larry Weber (58) of Lockeford, formerly of Galt, passed away in Lockeford on March 30, 2007. He was born in Lee, Neb., on May 4, 1948 to Marvin and Wilba Weber.
The family moved to California when he was nine years old. Larry graduated from Galt High School. He retired as a truck driver, working for Honolulu Freight. He enjoyed gardening and spectator sports.
Surviving him are two daughters, Amber (John) Ashe and Angela Weber of Lodi; son, Joshua Weber of Lodi; granddaughter, Ashlee; five grandsons, Brenden, Johnnie, Austin, Dylan and Jay; and sister, Jean Garner of Colorado.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Marvin and Wilma Weber; and sister, Carolyn Matranga.
Friends are invited to visit Wednesday and Thursday, April 4 and 5, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Lodi Funeral Home.
A chapel service will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, April 6 at Lodi Funeral Home, followed by committal.
