Dennis McKindley
- Dennis McKindley
Dennis McKindley, 64, died on July 26, 2008. He was born Jan. 14, 1944 to Earnest and Dolly McKindley and was raised in the Lodi-Galt area. He had one sister, Judy and one brother, Gregory.
In 1978, he moved to Chowchilla where he raised his family until 1994 when he moved to Bakersfield. Dennis was a catalyst in the water well industry for 35 years. He helped to build Zim Ind-Bakersfield Well & Pump into one of the largest water well companies in the nation. Dennis loved hunting, playing cards and, most of all, spending time with his family and grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by both his family and colleagues, but left behind many memories and teachings.
Surviving Dennis are his four children, Kirk, Matt, Tom and Kay; and 12 grandchildren, Karson, Katelyn, Ryan, Julie, Zac, Zane, Reagan, Riley, Nate, Monique, Neo and Millennia.
A viewing will be held Thursday, July 31, from 5-8 p.m., at Kern River Family Mortuary, located at 1900 N. Chester Avenue in Bakersfield; (661) 392-9010.
Services will be held Friday, Aug. 1, at 11 a.m., at Riverlakes Church, located at 4301 Calloway Drive in Bakersfield; (661) 589-9733.
Graveside service will be held at Green Lawn directly after Friday’s service followed by a reception at Riverlakes Church. Floral arrangements may be sent to Kern River Family Mortuary.

Lillian Darnell
Lillian Darnell, 83, of Galt died July 18, 2008 at a Lodi hospital. She was born as Lillian Perry on March 26, 1925 in Kentucky. She was a resident of the area for four years and a homemaker.
Surviving Lillian are her daughter, Patricia Apodoca; son, Michael Darnell; and daughter, Jeri Crain.
Lillian will be buried at Bethany Memorial Cemetery in Valley Station, Kentucky. Galt Funeral Home assisted with arrangements.

Eugene Brenner
Eugene Brenner, 82, of Herald died July 23, 2008. He was born on March 18, 1926 in Fresno.
His father, Henry August Aschenbrenner and mother, Anna Karle, both of German descent, came to the U.S. from Russia with their families in the early 1900s. Eugene was the second of three children and the last surviving sibling of his family.
Eugene was a WWII Navy veteran. His hardworking and determined spirit brought him from the poverty stricken conditions of the depression era to become a college educated electronic technician, entrepreneur and inventor. Prior to settling and building a home in Herald, Eugene and wife Alice live in San Jose for 37 years, where they raised their family and built a life to be remembered and cherished by those who knew them.
Eugene had survived his wife of 55 years, Alice Brenner, who passed away in March 2006. His older sister, Violet Davids of Fresno and younger brother, Al Brenner Craig of San Diego also preceded him in death.
Surviving him are his children, Andrew George Brenner of Herald and Marianne Carrasco of Fremont; grandchildren, Sarabeth Alys Carrasco and Joseph Ryan Carrasco; niece and nephews, Jeanette Marcell Rivers, John Edward Jones and Christian Craig. His family will miss him.

Neva Sue Liddell
Neva Sue Liddell (Wilborn), 50, died on July 22, 2008 in the presence of her family after a four-year battle with cancer. She was born on Nov. 22, 1957 and was raised in Fresno.
After she married Brad Liddell in 1973, the family moved to Sacramento. Neva was a woman of many talents, spending her early years working for the Sacramento County Office of Education and driving a school bus. She had the opportunity to demonstrate her compassion for others by working with special needs children. After several years, Brad and Neva became proud owners of the Classic Awards and Trophy Company. Neva served as president of the company and gave her heart to produce a successful business.
Neva never let her faith waiver and continued to value life and its offerings with a smile on her face. She was a caring, generous, selfless person to her family and all for whom she cared. Nothing brought her greater joy than embracing life’s moments with her children, grandchildren and husband. She took great pride in her family and was a supportive and encouraging mother and wife. Although missed immensely, her family forever will hold in their hearts the amazing legacy she left behind.
Her father, John Wilborn, and grandparents preceded Neva in death.
Surviving Neva are her loving husband of 35 years, Brad; daughters, Nanette, Jennifer and Kristen; grandchildren, Garrett, Cody, Kaitlin and Hannah; mother, Beverly; siblings, Jo Ann and Jack, as well as many other family members.
A celebration of Neva’s life will be held on Saturday, Aug. 2 at 11 a.m. at Horizon Community Church in Galt.

E. Leila La Rue
Ethel Leila Miller La Rue, 88, died on July 26, 2008. She was born on Oct. 7, 1919 in Ontario, Calif.
Leila lived in San Joaquin County for 51 years. She worked for Lockeford Meat Service for 10 years and was their first meat wrapper. She was a member of Galt Bible Church and the Rebekahs in Lockeford. She was a past president of Lockeford Woman’s Club, which then disbanded and joined the Lodi Woman’s Club. She did volunteer work for Lockeford Chamber of Commerce. She lived in Lockeford for 33 years.
Her family was her life, and she was a fantastic cook and baker. She enjoyed her rose garden, sewing, cooking, baking, decorating and having family dinners. She was a very loving person and a fantastic mother and grandmother. She was a favorite aunt to her nieces and nephews. She will be greatly loved and missed by all her family and friends.
Surviving Leila are her sister, Hazel Smith of La Puente; daughters, Jeanne (Dave) Kellar of Lodi, Susan (Bob) Martin of Ellensburg, Wash., and son Jay (Linda) La Rue of Galt; seven grandchildren, Robin Kellar, Jerry Kellar, Christina Martin, Chanda Ford, Ryan La Rue, Caleb La Rue, Luke La Rue; and one great-grandson, Cole Ford.
Preceding her in death were her parents, Lee and Ethel Miller; husband, Edmund G. La Rue; sister, Ruby Feuerbacher; and brother, Al Miller.
Leila’s memory will be honored in a service at Donahue Funeral Home, Inc., 123 N. School Street in Lodi on Saturday, Aug. 2 at 10 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Lodi Woman’s Club, 325 W. Pine St., Lodi, CA 95240 or to Hospice of San Joaquin, 3888 Pacific Ave., Stockton, CA 95204.
