Lewis L. Bourne
- Lewis L. Bourne
Lewis Lee Bourne (78) of Galt died on Feb. 14, 2007 after a short illness. He was born on Feb. 28, 1928 in Bluefield, Va.
Mr. Bourne had been a resident of the area for 34 years, after residing in Suisun City for 20 years. He was a retired lieutenant from the Suisun City Police Department. He had served four years as an MP with the U.S. Air Force, and was a member of American Legion #22 who loved fishing, camping and traveling.
Surviving him are his wife of 58 years, Gloria Bourne of Galt; daughter, Linda Smithson of Melbourne, Fla.; brothers, Bill and Kenneth Bourne and sisters, Betty Steele and Evelyn Warden, all of Virginia; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
A son, Kyle E. Bourne and a brother, Carl Bourne, preceded him in death.
Private memorial services will be held with Ben Salas Funeral Home handling arrangements.

Betty L. Castillo
Betty Lou Castillo (76) of Sacramento, formerly of Lodi and Galt, passed away in Sacramento on Feb. 14, 2007. She was born in Seattle, Wash., on Nov. 6, 1930 to Albert and Estella Duran.
Her family moved to Portland, Ore., when she was very young. In 1950, she married Johnnie Rebuffo, who passed away in 1953. In 1960, she married Benny Castillo and, in 1979, they renewed their vows in church. She was baptized in 1980 at the Galt Seventh-day Adventist Church. When she moved to Sacramento, she became a member of Capitol City Seventh-day Adventist Church.
During her life in California, she lived in Lodi, Thornton, Locke, Galt and finally Sacramento. She enjoyed gardening and automobiles, particularly the Cadillac. She traveled often with her husband, Benny, and they worked together in the vineyards.
Surviving are two sisters, Mildred (Micci) Burrows of Portland, Ore., and Dodie Holt of Grand Junction, Colo.; and one brother, David Gill of Portland, Ore.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Johnnie Rebuffo in 1953 and second husand, Balbino (Benny) Castillo in 1997; three sisters, Donna Lundy, Margie Lundmark and Ramona Reese.
A graveside service was held Tuesday, Feb. 20 at South East Lawn Cemetery in Elk Grove.
Memorial remembrances may be made to the American Heart Association, 1212 W. Robinhood Dr., Suite 5-D, Stockton, CA 95207.

Mary Fontaine
Mary Fontaine (61) passed away on Feb. 9, 2007 from complications of cancer. She was born Sept. 30, 1945.
Mary enjoyed journalism, music, art, photography, and life. She is welcomed in death by her mother and father.
Surviving her are Robin Fontaine, Peter Fontaine, Chris Fontaine, Margaret Schuler, Laura Welch, Jeff Weeks and Guy Perkins.
A memorial service will be held on Feb. 25 at 2839 Ashby Ave., in Berkeley at 3 p.m. For additional information, call Laura at 209-570-3645.

Buzz Bottimore
Cecil “Buzz” Bottimore, Jr. of Galt passed away on Sunday, Feb. 18, 2007 at his home. He served four years in the U.S. Navy and was a resident of the Galt/Herald area for 79 years.
Buzz was the devoted father of Kevin (Pat), Gary (Irene), and Brian (Cheryl); and cherished grandfather of Kristen (Chad), Ryan (Melissa), Liane, Brelynn (Jonathon), Amanda, Cecil III, Katie and Ryan. Also surviving him are two step-grandchildren, Jordan and Chase; one great grandchild, Rylie; a sister, Ruth; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends are welcome to attend a celebration of his life of Thursday, Feb. 22 at 10:30 a.m. at the Galt Funeral Home, 702 B Street. Interment will be private.

Oliver F. Bowen
Oliver F. Bowen (91), formerly of Galt, died Feb. 17 in Folsom following a brief illness. He was born in Equador, South America on Dec. 22, 1915 and lived in Chone, Equador for 35 years.
Mr. Bowen moved to Galt in 1951 and to Folsom in the early 1960s. He retired from aerojet as an equipment operator and also did maintenance for 10 years at El Camino High School. He was a member of Rotary Club International and was formerly mayor of Chone, Equador. An avid reader, Mr. Bowen enjoyed carpentry and building doghouses and birdhouses.
Surviving him are his wife of 53 years, Mary A. Walker Bowen; daughters, Yolanda (Hugo) Arteaga, Beauty (Cesar) Arteaga of Equador, Marilu Sprecher of Wasilla, Alaska and Lee (Skip) Winfree of Anchorage, Alaska; brothers, Leonhard (Sandra) Walker and Joe (Glenda) Walker; 20 grandchildren, 43 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by daughters, Rose Mary Manning and Mariana Bowen; sons, Lauro and Ricardo Bowen; brothers, Jaime and Julio Bowen; sister, Maruja Andrade.
Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 21 at Ben Salas Funeral Home. Rosary will follow at the funeral home.
Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 22 at St. Christopher’s Church, 950 S. Lincoln Way in Galt, with committal at Galt Cemetery.

Lynette R. DeAlberts
Lynette Renee De Alberts (41), formerly of Galt, died Feb. 17, 2007 at a local hospital of cancer.
She was born July 13, 1965 in Sacramento and lived in Galt 36 years before moving to Sacramento, where she lived five years. She enjoyed reading, walking and listening to music.
She is survived by her mother, Louisa Rose and stepfather, Ed Rose of Galt; father, Bruce De Alberts and stepmother, Diana De Alberts of Galt; son, Mikey Mello of Galt; brothers, Tony De Alberts and Heath De Alberts of Galt.

Army National Guard Specialist Thomas C. Bulahan has been mobilized and activated for a future deployment to an undisclosed overseas location in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.
Operation Iraqi Freedom is the official name given to military operations involving members of the U.S. armed forces and coalition forces participating in efforts to free and secure Iraq.
Mission objectives focus on force protection, peacekeeping, stabilization, security and counter-insurgency operations as the Iraqi transitional governing bodies assume full sovereign powers to govern the peoples of Iraq.
Members from all branches of the U.S. military and multinational forces are also assisting in rebuilding Iraq’s economic and governmental infrastructure, and training and preparing Iraqi military and security forces to assume full authority and responsibility in defending and preserving Iraq’s sovereignty and independence as a democracy.
Bulahan, an infantryman, is normally assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 160th Infantry in San Diego. He has served in the military for two years.
He is the son of Bobby and Gail Irwin of Galt. His wife, Lindsey, is the daughter of Michael and Trudy Bray of Galt. The specialist is a 2005 graduate of Galt High School.
John C. Prewett
Air Force Airman John C. Prewett has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.
During the six weeks of training, the airman studied the Air Force mission, organization, and military customs and courtesies; performed drill and ceremony marches, and received physical training, rifle marksmanship, field training exercises, and special training in human relations.
In addition, airmen who complete basic training earn credits toward an associate degree through the Community College of the Air Force.
He is the son of Christina Carter of Galt and a 2005 graduate of Galt High School.
