Shirley Stoffel
Shirley Stoffel passed away Dec. 24, 2006 at the age of 75. She was born March 9, 1931 in Buffalo, N.Y.
Mrs. Stoffel moved to Galt in 2000, although she has been in California since 1957. She loved watching NASCAR and game shows on television, and was looking forward to the upcoming wedding of her granddaughter, Andrea, to Tyler Alcoriza.
Surviving her are two daughters, Debbie Fox and Darlene Quintana (Gilbert Quintana); grandchildren, Anthony Quintana (Tina Quintana), Joseph Quintana, Andrea Quintana, Briana Quintana, Christopher Fox, Benjamin Fox, Elizabeth Fox and Nathaniel Fox; great-granddaughters, Kayla Quintana and Abby Quintana; sister, Joan Messana (Jim Messana); and numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were her mother, Mary kick; father, Herb Kick; sisters, Clara Kendall and Audrey Stamp; brother, Herb Kick; and son, Robert J. Stoffel.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 4, at the Chapel of Flowers at Cherokee Memorial Park in Lodi. Cherokee Memorial Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Rose Wipfli Knabke
Rose Wipfli Knabke, 87, of Denair died Dec. 29, 2006 in Turlock. She was born Sept. 8, 1919 in Great Falls, Montana and moved to the Santa Clara valley with her family in 1926.
Rose graduated from Santa Clara High School in 1937 and married Frank Wipfli. They moved to Irvington where she lived for 34 years on the Wipfli Brothers Dairy, and was widowed in 1960.
In 1961, she married Robert Knabke and moved to his cattle ranch in Galt. She lived there until Robert died in 2003; she then lived with her daughters in Denair and Fremont.
Rose was a devoted wife and caring mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She loved the outdoors, including bird watching and gardening. She was a great cook and loved to find ways of preparing deer, pheasant, duck, fish and any other game someone brought home.
She was always ready for a game of poker or pinochle or to work her crossword puzzles, and she enjoyed reading. Rose always said to “count your blessings, not your woes.”
Surviving are two daughters, Rosemary (Gery) Wagner of Denair and Patricia Schaffarczyk of Fremont; grandchildren, Diane Wagner of Castro Valley, Kristi Gemperle of Turlock, Andrea King of Fremont, Phillip Wagner of Crows Landing and Frank Schaffarczyk of Oakland; seven great-grandchildren; brother, John Bucher of Napa; and many nieces and nephews.
Family and friends are invited to church services on Saturday, Jan. 6, at 9:30 a.m., at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church (formerly Santa Paula) at 41933 Blacow Road, Fremont. Internment will be at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, 26320 Mission Blvd., in Hayward.
