Galt Warriors 3rd and 4th grade basketball team wins championship

Galt’s third and fourth grade city league basketball team won the South Sacramento City League Championship on Aug. 3 by defeating Meadow View Park’s Celtics third and fourth grade team by a score of 40-38.
The Galt Warriors completed league play with a record of five wins and one loss.
The Warriors entered the league playoff as the number one seed.
The Warriors started the playoffs by defeating the Vintage Park Lakers from Elk Grove by a score of 42-18.
As the Warriors advanced in the tournament, their next opponent was the South Sacramento Kings.
The game started off with both teams scoring on their first scoring opportunity.
As the game went on, the Warriors pulled away defeating the Kings by a score of 58-25.
With the Warriors second round victory, the Warriors advanced to the city championship. The Warriors’ opponent for the championship was the Meadow View Park Celtics.
The two teams had split league play with each team winning one game.
The championship game was a grueling match with the Celtics taking an early lead on the Warriors and by half time, expanding the lead from three points at the end of the first quarter to a seven-point lead 23-16.
The Warriors began their comeback by starting the third quarter with an eight point run taking the lead from the Celtics.
At the end of the third quarter the game was even with the score at 30-30.
The fourth quarter started with each team scoring on their possession. As the game entered the final minute, the Celtics took a one-point lead.
The Warriors drove to the basket initiating a foul. The Warrior player made one of two free throws to tie the game with 30 seconds left.
The Celtics in bounded the basketball and missed the next shot. The Warriors were able to corral the rebound and dribble the ball down court and make a six-foot jump shot to take the lead.
The Celtics inbounded the ball with 15 seconds left, took a shot toward the basket missing, obtaining the rebound, and attempting another shot as time expired with the ball hitting the rim of the basketball hoop and missing, thus, giving the Warriors the championship.
