Six game win streak pushes Galt softball into first-place tie with Oak Ridge

Six straight wins have left the Galt varsity Lady Warriors tied for first place in the Sierra Valley Conference standings along with Oak Ridge.
With just four games left before the Sac-Joaquin Section playoffs begin May 16, Galt displayed its drive to make it to the postseason last week after defeating Union Mine and Christian Brothers to stay number one.
Galt swept its season series against Christian Brothers Monday with a 14-1 win in Sacramento, leaving the Lady Warriors with an 8-3 league record.
Galt scored six runs in the top of the first, one in the third inning, two in the fifth and five in the sixth en route to its win Monday.
Dani Wise was 2 for 4 with a home run, two RBIs, and two runs, Bailie Diehl was 2 for 4 with one RBI, three runs, a double and a triple, and Elise Fry was 3 for 4 with two RBIs, one run and a double to lead the Lady Warriors.
Kim Briggs was 1 for 4 with two RBIs and two runs, Lauren Reyes was 2 for 5 with one run and one RBI, and Leanna Reyes was 2 for 4 with one RBI and one run.
Riley Sexton, who started the game on the mound, was 1 for 2 with two RBIs, Morgan Greenhaw was 1 for 4 with a run, Andrea Hanchey was 1 for 3 with two runs and two RBIs, and Alicia Villano scored one run.
Sexton pitched five innings, gave up zero earned runs, one hit and one walk, and reliever Brittany Monday allowed one hit in one inning against Christian Brothers, which scored its lone run in the bottom of the fifth.
Thursday
Eight hits and a complete game shut out by Galt starting pitcher Elise Fry led to a 4-0 shutout over Christian Brothers Thursday.
The Lady Warriors scored two runs in the bottom of the first and two runs in the bottom of the fifth against Christian Brothers, who were limited to just four hits.
Fry had nine strikeouts and walked none in her ninth win, helping to keep Galt in first place with Oak Ridge in the Sierra Valley Conference standings.
Dani Wise led the Lady Warriors, going 2 for 3 with two RBIs, Morgan Greenhaw was 1 for 4 with two runs, and Leanna Reyes was 2 for 3 with two runs.
Kim Briggs went 1 for 3 with one RBI, Lauren Reyes went 2 for 3 with a walk, and Bailie Diehl went 0 for 2 with a walk.
April 22
Five early runs cemented the varsity Lady Warriors’ hold on Union Mine last Tuesday, and gave starter Riley Sexton plenty to work with as Galt won 5-2.
The Lady Warriors scored one run in the first inning and four runs in the third inning to take a 5-0 lead before Union Mine scored two runs in the late innings.
The win put Galt broke a four-way tie in the SVC standings and left Galt in first place with the last half of the season left on its schedule.
Kim Briggs led Galt offensively, going 2 for 3 with 3 RBIs, one run, and one double.
Leanna Reyes continued her recent offensive streak and went 2 for 3 with two runs and one RBI.
Bailie Diehl went 1 for 3 with one RBI, Dani Wise went 1 for 3, Morgan Greenhaw scored one run and Lauren Reyes scored one run for Galt.
In the top of the sixth inning, Union Mine’s Emily Barnes scored on a single by Chyane Dorsey for the Lady Diamondbacks’ first run.
After Kayla O’Neill led off the top of the seventh inning with a walk, Kim Hazard hit an RBI single to score O’Neill, making it 5-2.
Sexton pitched 5 2/3 innings for the win, giving up one unearned run, two hits, one walk and one strikeout.
Reliever Elise Fry pitched 1 1/3 innings, giving up one run, two hits, one walk and two strikeouts for Galt.
The Lady Warriors will face the biggest challenge in the remainder of its regular season with a two-game series against Ponderosa that starts tonight in Shingle Springs.
Ponderosa was tied for third place with a 6-5 record prior to the game.
