Lady Warriors turn in four new section-qualifying times in win over Cordova

Galt swimmers qualified Friday in four events for the Sac-Joaquin Section Trials in Galt’s last home meet.
Kayla Smith qualified in the 200 freestyle with her time of 2:02.87 and in the 100 freestyle with her time of 56.01, while Jenni Finkes qualified in the 100 butterfly with her time of 1:05.15.
In the 200 free relay, the team of Katie Harvey, Mallorie Goodwin, Lauren Petersen and Andie Moitoza qualified with its time of 1:53.52.
The times were not the only good news for Galt Friday.
The varsity girls, varsity boys, and JV girls teams all swept Cordova to end the regular season.
The varsity Lady Warriors defeated Cordova 116-48.
The 200 medley relay team of Smith, Mercedes O’Brien, Finkes, and Petersen won first place with its time of 1:59.84.
O’Brien won the 50 freestyle with her time of 26.86 and won the 100 breaststroke with her time of 1:10.10.
Finkes won first in the 200 individual medley with her time of 2:28.24, and was part of the 400 free relay team that included Moitoza, O’Brien and Smith that won at 3:59.19.
Smith won the 100 freestyle with her section-qualifying time, and Ashley Tiapon won the 500 freestyle with her time of 6:17.16.
In individual swimming, Moitoza won the 100 backstroke at 1:08.95.
Galt’s varsity boys defeated Cordova 78-65.
D.J. Finkes won the 100 butterfly with his time of 1:01.64, and was part of the 200 free relay team of Finkes, Steven Reichmuth, Chase Harvey, and Ricky Hegner that won first place with its time of 1:46.28.
Harvey won the 100 freestyle win his time of 54.90, Hegner won the 500 freestyle with his time of 5:51.91, and Chris Pillsbury won first place in the 100 breaststroke with his time of 1:23.86.
Geoff Munch finished second in the 100 breaststroke.
In the JV girls team competition, Galt won 101-53 over the Lady Lancers.
The 200 medley relay team of Trista Dowdy, Kim Smith, Duffy, and Katey Santillan won with its time of 2:10.95.
Dowdy won the 200 free style with her time of 2:24.65, and won the 100 freestyle with her time of 1:06.01.
Duffy won the 200 individual medley with her time of 2:43.19 and won the 100 butterfly with her time of 1:13.06.
Santillan won the 50 freestyle with her time of 29.84, while Michelle Villa won the 500 freestyle with her time of 7:22.05.
Smith won the 100 breaststroke with her time of 1:21.72, while the 400 free relay team of Dowdy, Santillan, Smith, and Duffy won with its time of 4:31.52.
With the conclusion of Friday’s meet against Cordova, Galt now moves on to the postseason with the Sierra Valley Conference meet Friday and Saturday.
The varsity girls team will be without several of its swimmers, including Heather Duffy and Kelsea Jackson, who are out for the season.
While Jordan Uyemoto is now able to practice swimming, he is out for the remainder of the season as well.
“They look like they’re ready, and they want to win this year,” Galt JV swim coach Kalah Westlynn said Friday of the Galt swimmers who will participate at the league meet. “I definitely saw some really good times today.”
Galt will travel to Vista del Lago, SVC’s newest member, Friday for the first day of the league meet.
