Warriors shut out Oak Ridge in SVC opener

J.J. Martinez went 1 for 2 and scored two runs in the Warriors’ 11-0 win Thursday.

Brent Harrison pitched the varsity Warriors to their first win over Oak Ridge in years Monday evening, and scored a run to help himself offensively as well.
Galt shut out the Trojans 2-0 at Galt Community Park, after Harrison reached base and scored on an error to give Galt the edge and a 1-0 Sierra Valley Conference start.
Mac Lindner knocked in the Warriors’ second run with a big RBI single late in the game to score J.J. Martinez and to provide some insurance against a team the Warriors haven’t beaten in recent history.
Harrison pitched a complete game, gave up 0 runs and 0 walks against the Trojans.
Oak Ridge left 10 runners stranded on base and had eight walks, along with two errors.
Galt had no errors, and had three hits, along with the two runs.
Thursday
The Warriors got in one last preseason game before the Sierra Valley Conference season started Monday, and defeated Monterey Trail last Thursday 11-0.
Galt had rallies in each of the third, fourth, and fifth innings, giving the Warriors a large enough lead that the game ended after the fifth inning.
Nikko Garcia, who led off the inning with a single, scored the first of three runs in the in the third inning when Monterey Trail fielders botched a pickoff attempt, which gave the Warriors a 3-0 lead.
Cole Rasmussen’s sacrifice allowed Joey Ruiz, who had reached base on a single, to advance to third.
Brent Harrison then hit a bunt single to score Ruiz for a 4-0 lead.
After Matt Barsetti hit a single, Harrison stole third base before Joe Setum hit an RBI single to score Harrison for a 5-0 lead.
In the fourth inning, the Warriors added three more runs to their lead.
J.J. Martinez led the off the inning by getting on base after getting hit by a pitch from Mustangs starter Mike Padilla.
Rasmussen hit a single, and Harrison then hit a single that drove in a run for a 6-0 Galt lead.
After Rasmussen and Harrison pulled off a double steal, Barsetti then hit an RBI single for an 8-0 lead.
Galt added its final runs in the fifth inning.
Martinez hit an RBI double that scored Taylor Peasha, who had singled, for a 9-0 lead.
Garcia then hit an RBI double to score Martinez for a 10-0 lead.
With a big lead in place in the fifth, Galt head coach Joe Garcia substituted half of his lineup.
With two outs, Tyler Parker went 1 for 1 with a single, Mac Lindner went 1 for 1 with a single, and David Jiminez walked.
“This time they were more relaxed and a little bit more disciplined,” Garcia said after the game. “Prior to that, they were too comfortable. When you get on a winning streak and you get in that comfort zone, it’s hard to be pumped up over and over.”
Garcia and Rasmussen combined for the shut out, with Garcia pitching three innings, facing 10 batters and striking out two and Rasmussen pitching two innings and striking out two as well.
Harrison went 3 for 3 with three runs and three RBIs, Garcia went 2 for 3 with two runs and an RBI, and Martinez went 1 for 2 with two runs to lead the Warriors.
