The Galt Warriors varsity baseball program participated in the Stagg Invitational Tournament during spring break, and swept all three of its games.
In the Warriors’ first game, Galt defeated Edison 10-0.
Galt Varsity Warriors faced Edison High School for the first time, running up 10 runs, ending the game in the fifth.
Galt had a strong pitching performance by senior Brent Harrison in the opening game.
Harrison came out dominating, facing only 13 batters, allowing no runs, one hit and struck out seven.
Hank Seifert came in relief to finish off the game.
Galt came out hitting and scoring like a machine, showing no signs of slowing down until the fifth, according to Galt head coach Joe Garcia.
“I was very pleased how our batters performed. Every batter found ways to get on base and alone with big hits started to put big numbers on the scoreboard,” Garcia said.
“Galt’s defense remained solid which made it very difficult for Edison to find ways to get on base,” Garcia said.
Galt defeated Stagg 12-0 in Galt’s second game.
The Warriors continued to dominate, with another strong performance from the Galt pitching staff.
Junior J.J. Martinez goes five innings, shutting out Stagg, allowing only one hit and striking out seven batters.
Galt defense continued to dominate the tournament, winning back-to-back shutouts.
“Galt batters continue to light up the opponents’ pitching, still finding ways to get on base and continue to run up the scoreboard,” Garcia said.
“Galt offense has becoming a new red hitting machine lately and they still continue. Coach Vic Sanchez of Stagg High was very surprised how good the Galt varsity team was, a whole different team than last year,” Garcia said.
Garcia was very pleased to see his players continue to push themselves and not to get in that comfort zone, regardless of what teams they faced.
In the third game, Galt defeated Elliot Christian 10-5.
Galt batters continued their consistency by finding ways to get on base.
Galt produced six big hits, two doubles and two for triples and one bunt with the bases loaded.
Elliott Christian pitched its best pitcher against Galt but was unable to slow down the offense.
Galt knew there were some good players for Elliot Christian which several players had played for Garcia in American Legion Baseball last year.
“I give them credit, Elliot batters swung the bat well, able to produce five runs against Galt High,” Garcia said.
Taylor Peasha was a starter for the third game, able to go four innings, allowing only three runs, four hits and three strikeouts.
Nikko Garcia came in as a middle reliever for one inning, allowing no runs and one hit. Brent Harrison closed the door for Galt by pitching the last two innings, allowing two runs, one hit and two strikeouts.
“Overall, I was very pleased to see my team come out to play baseball on Spring Break. Nothing was held back, no team was ever underestimated,” Garcia said.
“The Galt Warriors were ready to play ball, defensively and offensively. Coach Joe, Harrison, Setum, Hummel and Hudson prepared the Galt Warriors for this tournament very well,” Garcia said. “We have now won eight straight games and we hope to continue the momentum.”
Galt High will be facing Monterey Trail High School on Thursday at 4 p.m.
