Galt swim teams turned in two out of three team wins Friday afternoon in the Warriors’ first home swim meet this season and earned their first wins against a Sierra Valley Conference opponent.
The JV girls and varsity girls both defeated the Lady Diamondbacks, while the varsity Warriors, handicapped with a small number of swimmers, lost to Union Mine.
Galt’s JV girls defeated Union Mine 83-73, winning in seven of 11 events, and had seven first-place finishers.
The 200 medley relay team of Dowdy, Smith, Santillan, and Ayala finished in first place with their time of 2:20.46.
In the 200 individual medley, Villa won first place.
In the 500 freestyle, Smith won first place with her time of 6:47.05.
Union Mine had no participants in the 500 freestyle, so Smith and M. Greene raced against the clock and earned an easy 10 points in that event.
In the 200 free relay, Galt’s team of Santillan, Smith, Dowdy, and Villa won with a time of 2:04.32.
In the 100 freestyle, Villa finished second with her time of 1:12.36.
Galt also won in the 100 backstroke, where Dowdy took first with her time of 1:15.42.
In the 100 breaststroke, Galt finished second, third and fourth to win that event, with Santillan and Morphis finishing second with a time of 1:29.35.
In the 400 free relay, Ayala, M. Greene, L. Greene, and Villa took second with their time of 5:28.85.
“The JV girls did very well for the amount of people that they had and varsity girls went out and they did wonderful,” Galt JV coach Kalah Westlynn said Friday.
“The boys are limited on the numbers, so it’s hard to be successful,” Westlynn said on Galt’s limited male roster.
The varsity Lady Warriors defeated Union Mine 98-72, winning eight of 11 events.
Lauren Petersen came away with four first place finishes, including two individual wins and two relay wins.
Petersen won the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:39.42, and won the 200 freestyle with a time of 2:07.13.
Petersen also won first place on the 200 free relay team, and as part of the 400 free relay team of Andee Moitoza, Petersen, O’Brien, and Kayla Smith.
Mercedes O’Brien also had an eventful day, turning in four wins as well.
In individual races, O’Brien won the 100 freestyle with her time of 57.71, won the 100 breaststroke with her time of 1:11.49.
O’Brien also won first place with the 200 medley relay team of Katie Harvey, Moitoza, O’Brien, and Nicole Newman with a time of 2:04.72, and was part of the 400 free relay team that won first place.
Smith was another standout swimmer for the Lady Warriors with three wins and a relay win.
Smith won the 100 butterfly with her time of 1:06.87, won the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:05.26, won the 200 individual medley with her time of 2:18.40, and won the 400 free relay.
The 200 free relay team of Harvey, Petersen, Trull and Newman won first at 1:51.47.
In the 50 freestyle, Moitoza, Yeargin, and Dirkson finished second with a time of 27.91 seconds.
Galt’s varsity boys lost to Union Mine 117-46 with a shortened roster that prevented the Warriors from being at full strength.
The 200 medley relay team of Teague Fordis, Frankie Moitoza, D.J. Finkes, and Chase Harvey took second place with its time of 1:59.95.
In the 200 individual medley, Harvey finished second with his time of 2:18.50.
Fordis finished second in the 50 freestyle with his time of 26.56 seconds, and finished second in the 500 freestyle with his time of 6:04.55.
Harvey turned in the Warriors’ lone individual win Friday evening, winning the 100 backstroke.
Harvey swam in 1:07.44, helping Galt to win the event, along with Finkes’ third-place finish.
In the 400 free relay, Fordis, Moitoza, Finkes, and Harvey finished second with a time of 4:00.24.
Westlynn, along with Galt varsity head coach Shannon Potter, are currently working on several things with the Warriors.
“We’re working on trying to get their cardio up... they’re trying to get their times down and get ready for championships,” Westlynn said.
Galt’s next meet is Tuesday, March 25 at Vista del Lago in Folsom.
