The varsity Warriors lost for the first time in six games Monday after they hosted Oak Ridge and were shut out 2-0.
“We got out of playing our game,” Galt head coach Bob Merten said. “We stopped one-touching the ball in the first half. It leads to turning the ball over to the other team too many times.”
Oak Ridge scored both of its goals in the first half, the first coming with 29 minutes left and the second with about 6:50 left.
The Warriors’ offensive drives were more frequent in the second half.
Edgar Munoz, Isaac Valencia and Cody Klucknik all attempted to score for Galt, but either just missed or was caught by Oak Ridge’s goalkeeper.
Merten noted that Oak Ridge ran the same offense as Galt, and the Warriors’ difficulty with their own offense allowed the Trojans to take over.
“They were able to run their triangles against us and use their long balls to get in play,” Merten said. “They ran the sidelines very well today.”
The loss dropped the Warriors into third place behind Christian Brothers and Oak Ridge.
The Warriors had a 4-2-2 league record and 11-4-4 going into today’s game at Cordova.
Cordova and Ponderosa both had 5-3 records, giving Galt a tight spot in the standings leading into the final four games.
