Out of all of their wins this season, this one capped it all for the Galt JV Jr. Warriors football program.
On a dark, chilly evening in Modesto, the Jr. Warriors shut out the Modesto Raiders 32-0 and won the first National Youth Football League State Championship Saturday.
The Jr. Warriors scored four touchdowns over the Raiders and used its defense to keep the home team from crossing into the end zone en route to the victory.
The championship marked a season in which the JV Jr. Warriors went undefeated with a 14-0 record.
That record included winning the conference championship and winning their division’s Super Bowl two weeks ago.
Galt kept Modesto at bay for most of Saturday’s game, giving the Raiders little chance to score.
At the same time, the Jr. Warriors made the most of their offensive possessions.
Jonathan Kendall scored on a 16-yard run in the first quarter and Jackson Vandenburg kicked the extra point to give the Jr. Warriors an 8-0 lead.
In the second quarter, Eliceo Pintor scored on a five-yard touchdown run followed by Vandenburg’s PAT for a 16-0 lead.
Jake Oliver then scored on a six-yard reception and Vandenburg scored the PAT for a 24-0 lead.
In the third quarter, Pintor scored on a five-yard reception from Jacob Tibbetts and Vandenburg kicked the extra points to give the Jr. Warriors their final lead.
NYFL representatives handed the impressive state championship trophy to Galt head coach Kevin Tibbetts in the post-game ceremony, and Tibbetts congratulated his players after the game.
“It was a great season, ending 14-0,” Tibbetts said. “There were a lot of people that contributed to this great team.”
Tibbetts expressed his thanks to members of Galt High School’s football coaching staff, as well as his own team’s staff.
“I would like to thank Warren Schroeder and T.J. Guidotti from the high school, Boyce Jeffries and Dave Goldsberry from the Parks and Recreation Department and Gus Prouty, Ron Casado, Barbara Welch, Jean Warren, Rick Stancil and Cindy Tibbetts, the Jr. Warrior Board members, for all their support,” Tibbetts said.
Kendall rushed 10 times for 114 yards, made one interception, and had four receptions for 61 yards, as well as five tackles.
Quarterback Tibbetts rushed eight times for 37 yards and completed 10 of 13 passes for 171 yards.
Oliver rushed five times for 31 yards and made two receptions for eight yards.
Pintor rushed three times for 29 times, made two receptions for 36 yards, and led Galt’s defense with eight tackles.
Angel Alvarado made two receptions for 66 yards and had four tackles, Patrick Johnson made one interception, and Jarod Guidotti made a fumble recovery.
Tibbetts recognized more members of the Jr. Warriors organization Saturday.
“To Tim Reilly, I owe a special thanks to for all the time and miles traveled filming to help the coaches prepare for each game. The guys I owe the most gratitude to is my coaching staff: Gerry McDonald, offensive coordinator; Casey Vandenburg, offensive line coach, Hugo Trevizo and Yonnie Jackson, defensive line coaches and Scott Oliver, defensive backs and wide receivers coach,” Tibbetts said.
“This JV team is probably one of the greatest Pop Warner teams to ever play in Galt. Thanks again and I’ll see everyone next year,” said Tibbetts.
