The Galt Jr. Warriors’ Rookies and JV teams both advanced to the National Youth Football League Super Bowl after winning semi-final games last Saturday in Brentwood.
The Rookies will play the Delta Patriots White Saturday and the JV team will face the Tokay Jr. Tigers in the Super Bowl.
Rookies
The Jr. Warriors Rookies won a heart-pounder in Brentwood and scored the game-winning touchdown over the Delta Patriots Blue with less than three minutes left in the game.
With the score tied 6-6, Tyler Regadanz ran four yards for a touchdown and put Galt up for good at 12-6 with 2:48 left.
The touchdown completed a scoring drive that lasted just over four minutes after Delta fumbled and turned the ball over the Galt.
Gene Hanchey, Xavier Ricci, and Clayton Casado all helped advance the ball on the scoring run, and helped lead Galt to the Conference Championship last Saturday.
After getting the lead, the Jr. Warriors had to stop Delta from tying the score.
Casado, Hanchey and Jadd Crisologo each had tackles for Galt, which stopped the ball at their own 39-yard line.
A Delta pass with 36.3 second left brought the ball to the five yard line, however, giving the Patriots plenty of time to tie.
Their chance fell through, however, when Regadanz intercepted a Delta pass in the end zone with 24 seconds left to secure Galt’s win.
Delta had taken a 6-0 lead in the first quarter, a lead which held until Casado scored on a three-yard touchdown run with 54 seconds left.
Regadanz’s kick was blocked, but Galt tied the score at 6-6.
Casado, Ricci, and McDonald all had carries for Galt on the play.
On defense, Mario Bautista had a tackle for Galt, Cole Stancil and Ryan Van Houten both had tackles, and Hanchey had an interception.
Matthew Noel also helped stop Delta on a play in the fourth quarter.
“When the game started, they just basically ran us over for their first score, and then we sucked it up and held them and we showed a lot of guts by coming back and beating them,” Galt assistant coach D.J. Dewhurst said.
“Tyler Regadanz, our quarterback, played a great game, the offensive line came through in the end, and it was just an all-around team effort,” Dewhurst said.
JV
The Jr. Warriors’ JV team won the Conference Championship in their division and defeated the Lodi Jr. Flames Black in Brentwood.
Galt took an 8-0 lead in the first quarter with a six-yard touchdown run by Eliceo Pintor and an extra point by Jackson Vandenburg with 32 seconds left.
Lodi then brought the score within two points with a 33-yard kick return for a touchdown in the second quarter.
Lodi missed its kick, however, which left them trailing Galt 8-6.
In the third quarter, Jacob Tibbetts made a 24-yard touchdown pass to Jonathon Kendall for a 14-6 Galt lead with 6:25 left.
Lodi was never able to catch up in the second half, despite two fumble recoveries.
Galt’s defense stopped Lodi on each possession, and didn’t allow the Flames to get closer than 27 yards away from the goal line.
Kendall rushed seven times for 52 yards, had three receptions for 36 yards, and four tackles for the Jr. Warriors.
Tibbetts rushed nine times for 38 yards, made six of 12 passes for 70 yards.
Jake Oliver rushed five times for 23 yards and had two receptions for 30 yards.
Pintor rushed five times for 28 yards, had four receiving yards, and had 13 tackles.
On defense, Matt Thomas had a fumble recovery, and DeAndre Jackson had six tackles for Galt.
“This was our biggest test of the season and the defense came up big. The defense shut down the Lodi offense the whole game. DeAndre Jackson, Abram Bennett, Jarod Guidotti, Maika Toloai, James Waldo, David Lara, Matt Thomas, Shane Speer, Jake Oliver, Jacob Tibbetts, Jonathon Kendall and Eliceo Pintor – these young men played their best game of the season,” Galt head coach Kevin Tibbetts said of his team.
“Back-of-the-Week is Eliceo Pintor. Lineman-of-the-Week is James Waldo and our Special Teams Player of the Week is Abram Bennett,” Tibbetts said.
