Proving it is never too late to keep on learning and to keep focused on your goals, several dozen Galt Adult School students were honored for their dedication to education at a special awards ceremony held last week.
Students were recognized for their outstanding attendance, an achievement of paramount importance in adult school when life, family, job and life’s distractions can interfere with the best of intentions to continue education after childhood.
Offering classes in a variety of skills, including English as a Second Language, citizenship, and career and technical courses, Galt Adult School students were recognized for completing E.L. Civics units in literacy and life skills, and for completing job training courses that will set them up for a future career.
Not to be taken for granted, many adults in the adult school program return to the classroom to earn a high school diploma or the general education diploma.
Earning a high school diploma in the 2007-08 school year are Garrett BlackwellJessica Cline, Chance Hickey, Otto Kafka, Kristafer Lock, Aubrey Pratt, Amalia Romero, Johanna Santoyo, Yolanda Velasques, Javier Villalpando, Wesley Whitney and Yecenia Zamora.
Earning a general education diploma for the 2007-08 school year are Jerrika Blake, Esteban Gomez, Maria Elena Gonzalez, Teresa Jiminez, Minerva Murillo, Beatriz Quiroz and Maria Zelene Zamudio.
Taking their education into the work force, Lisa Alberty, Peggy Luis, Maria Posas, Patricia Riley and Janet Wise have earned certificates in medical billing and coding.
Similarly, Rous Alatorre, Jessica Carrillo, Gabriella Gallegos, Brandy Garcia, Jessica Lizarraga, Alexander Nunez and Victor Otero have earned certificates in the medical assistant field.
Perhaps the proudest moments of the adult school year come when students earn their United States citizenship, a course of study that requires diligence, dedication and a true desire to become an American.
Joining the American family this year are Rosa Aguayo, Jose Alvarez, Luciano Alvarez, Maria Lourdes Arguello, Maria Cedeno, Alicia Curiel, Esquivias De Alvarez, Rigoberto Flores, Elisa Lopez, Maria Ochoa, Herminia Origel, Hari Prasad, Maria Carmen Ramirez, Jaime Rodriguez, Mercedes Salazar, Consuelo Sanchez, Rosalio Soto and Maria Zamora.
Congratulations to all of the 2008 Galt Adult School award recipients; you are truly an inspiration to the many who still long to complete their education or to continue with new skills.
