Dedication of the second Habitat for Humanity home in Galt was held Saturday, May 24 at 719 Simons Street with more than 55 people attending.
Mayor Andrew Meredith and Supervisor Don Nottoli greeted those attending. Ken Gross, chief executive officer of Sacramento Habitat for Humanity, explained the organization responsible for the building of this house. Leona Dameron emceed the event with Pastor Mary Sanders delivering the invocation.
The house was begun more than a year ago and was built by volunteers coordinated by Ron Dameron, in cooperation with homeowner family Ron Sumner and his sons. The homeowner partners put in more than 500 hours of labor on the house, which they will now buy on a 30-year mortgage.
Local contractors who have donated labor and materials for the construction of this house include Jeff Gates, concrete; A dam Hawkins of Superior Electric; Tim Schumacher, plumbing; Pat Maple, Roof Rangers; John Henke, backhoe; Robbins Garage Doors; Jose Gonzales, framing; and Richard Mendoza, painting.
The Sumner family spent many years as missionaries in Thailand but has returned to this country for their children’s educational opportunities. They look forward to making Galt their home.
Sacramento Habitat for Humanity will be building a second home on the property at Simons and Lincoln Way, which was donated by the City of Galt Redevelopment Agency with space for two homes. An informational seminar will be held May 31 at 9:30 a.m. at the Galt police station. Families interested in becoming Habitat for Humanity partners must make reservations by calling 916-440-1215.
