Galt High School senior band members Stephanie Pierce and Jeffrey French were honored with the Director’s Award for 2008. GHS Band Director Paul Everts presented the award.
- As the end of another school year draws near, Galt High School begins the annual tradition of honoring its best and brightest in a variety of ways.
Monday night served as the “kick off” event for the graduation season as the Galt High School band and choir honored their finest at a senior awards ceremony, but not before honoring the community with a stellar band and choir performance.
Friends, family and fans of the GHS band and choir all gathered together for one final performance of the talented GHS musicians before many of them head off to college or other pursuits.
Following the moving performances of the choir and band, the best of the best in GHS band and choir were honored for their excellence during the 2007-08 school year. Their peers selected some as most outstanding, and band and choir director Paul Everts honored others.
With a season of winning performances by the band and winter guard, selecting the best was no easy task, but in the end everyone agreed on those who were honored.
Top honors for the 2008-07 band season went to seniors Stephanie Pierce and Jeffrey French for their dedication to their craft, musical talents and performance skills.
Choir awards were split between two talented GHS ladies with Samantha Lucero taking home the GHS Director’s Award for 2008, and Stephanie Reyes being named winner of the National Director’s Award.
Jacob Ander came away from the 2008 season named Best Marcher by his peers, while Cecelia Gonzales and Morgan Pease were selected as the Most Improved Singers for the year.
It was B.J. Jeffries who earned the top nod of his peers, being named Most Outstanding Junior, and Teague Fordis earned high praise by being named Most Outstanding Sophomore.
Best Soprano honors went to Janaine Briggs, and the Best Alto award went to Lauren Coray.
Looking to the future, Everts said he would lose some talented seniors upon graduation, but that he is looking forward to some equally talented young stars to rise from the lower classes and continue to make the GHS band and choir a force to be recognized well into the future.
