Greer Middle School ASB fundraiser April 9
Proceeds to help fight cancer in Fagan family

Ben Fagan is fighting for his life against a brain tumor, finishing chemo and beginning radiation treatments at UC Davis.
- When cancer strikes one of your own, the immediate urge is to fight and to fight hard, and that’s what the entire student body and staff of Greer Middle School intend to do for the Fagan family of Galt.
The Greer Associated Student Body will hold a fundraising dinner on April 9 to benefit the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation and little Ben Fagan, son of popular GMS teacher, Bill Fagan.
Eight-year-old Ben was diagnosed with a brain tumor in early September 2007. On Sept. 25, he had surgery and just finished chemotherapy on March 7. Ben has now begun radiation treatment and still has Greer students cheering him on.
Greer’s ASB will hold a Fiesta fundraiser dinner on April 9 from 4:30 to 8 p.m. in the GMS multipurpose room. Tickets will be on sale March 25 for $5 a plate and includes two tacos, rice, beans, chips and salsa. Meat choices are asada (beef), al pastor (seasoned pork), or pollo (chicken). Beverages will be available for $1.
ASB gratefully acknowledges El Rodeo Restaurant for volunteering to prepare and cook the dinner.
Greer ASB student Corina Robertson spearheaded this fundraiser, and ASB advisor Kim Stilfield has rallied the school to participate.
“We hope to get the whole community behind this fundraiser,” says Stilfield. “This will not only benefit Ben, but will also support the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation, a nonprofit organization chosen by Bill Fagan.”
Uncertain of the side effects of radiation, the Fagan family is hopeful that Ben can continue to live a normal life, playing with his friends, riding his scooter, and getting in an occasional round of tennis with his dad.
“Ben has been a trooper throughout this whole ordeal,” said Greer admininstrative secretary Gina Stillfield. “He has kept such a great attitude, and Bill says he keeps him “up” when he is down. Ben’s one phenomenal kid, I’ll tell ya.”
The community can help by attending Greer’s Fiesta fundraiser. Anyone interested in helping or being a part of this event may contact Stilfield at 745-2651, ext. 411, or 209-304-0772.
