Have you been looking for a good way to give your spare time to those in need? Have you always wanted to get involved in community outreach but didn’t know how to get started? Do you have teens that need to get involved with community service for college?
If you answered yes to any of these questions, then the first-ever Diversity Day in Galt is the answer to all of your community outreach and service questions.
The Galt Community of Character Coalition is hosting Diversity Day on Sept. 6 at Galt Community Park from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m., and will be an extravaganza of community organizations for you to explore.
The purpose of the event is to give the community a fun opportunity to both learn about the resources in our community, and to join these groups as members or volunteers, while learning about all the different cultures, peoples, and needs in the city.
Approximately 25 community organizations have indicated they will be represented from city service organizations, such as the Galt Lions and Rotary Clubs, Commission on Aging, South County Services, Galt Area Historical Society, various student groups from Galt High School, Galt Youth Coalition, Galt Parks and Recreation, and many others representing Galt’s faith-based groups, youths, and senior citizens.
No matter your age or your physical ability, there is a place in community service for you and your entire family.
In addition to loads of information and opportunities to join in organized community outreach efforts, there will also be loads of food, music, entertainment and fun that will reflect the cultural diversity of our community.
Dance groups from UC Davis, Sacramento and Galt will highlight the afternoon, including a performance from the award-winning Galt High School color guard.
For the little ones, you will find facepainting, a soccer shoot and a chance to check emergency fire vehicles up close and personal, courtesy of the Cosumnes Community Services District.
“One of the six character traits the community has adopted is pride in community,” said Character Coalition chair Sue Roberts. “Hopefully, this event will celebrate the pride we have in the community of Galt.”
