Galt’s Angela Garcia picked up her first camera at the age of three, and even though she was just starting to get a clear view of the things around her as a toddler, she got her first lens-eye view of the world at that time, and she’s been playing around with cameras ever since.
Now 12 and an eighth grade student at Robert L. McCaffrey Middle School, Angela is a blue ribbon winner at the 2008 Sacramento County Fair.
Angela entered six photos. Five of the photos were awarded blue ribbon honors, while the sixth earned a red ribbon nod. The photos are judged on the Danish system. Pictures judged in the 90-100 range, with 100 the maximum possible, are first place winners and awarded blue ribbons.
For now, Angela shoots with her own Sony Sureshot seven mega pixel camera. She also uses her mom’s SLR and hopes one day to own one of her own.
As an aspiring photographer, Garcia looks for the perfect shot, hunting down the color, depth and subjects that give her the urge to aim and shoot.
“I took pictures of peacocks and daffodils at for the county fair at Daffodil Hill, and I took a few in my own backyard,” said Angela.
The daughter of Rick and Teri Garcia of Galt, Angela said she hasn’t decided on a career path as yet, but said she already knows she will be a lifelong shutterbug.
“I am not sure if I want to make a career out of photography, but I know it will always be a part of my life,” said Angela.
Not the only photographer in the family, mom Terri is given credit for getting Angela started in seeing the world through the eye of the lens.
“My mother is always taking pictures,” said Angela. “It just comes naturally to me.”
With photos entered at the California State Fair, Angela’s winning season may not yet be over.
“She has entered a different series of pictures in the state fair, and we are just waiting to see,” said Terri. “No matter what the results, we are very proud of her.”
