Barbara and Bob Sepcich have put together their all-time favorite recipes to create the “B &B Favorite Recipes of Family and Friends” cookbook. The couple has lived in Galt for more than 20 years and has been in the catering business and, at one point, owned the Village Bake Shop and Deli.

“We’ve been thinking about it for two or three years,” said Barbara Sepcich about her new cookbook, “B&B Favorite Recipes of Family and Friends”. While the thought of compiling recipes might have only been on the back of her mind for a few years, the recipes contained in the collection reflect a lifetime of family and friends coming together to share life and food in the kitchen.
The circle of friends continues to grow and even included the employees of Delta Physical Therapy, who offered to host the book signing. For two hours Barbara and Bob talked with friends, handed out samples and signed copies of their cookbook.
Sepcich took the time to talk about some of her favorite recipes with buyers and also how to get started in self-publishing.
For book buyer Peggy Eiseman, meeting Barbara was also a great way to find out about self-publishing.
Sepcich said that she considered several self-publishing companies and called a few after finding them online. She decided to go with Morris Press Cookbooks.
“They were the most reasonable,” said Sepcich.
The company performed all of the typesetting and design and then sent the proposed book to Sepcich for proof checking. Sepcich said that the process went smoother than anticipated.
“It was wonderful. I’m telling you they were right there to help,” said Sepcich.
Sepcich was especially happy with the 8x5 binder design that allows users to add their favorite recipes. Also included is a plastic book holder that enables the book to stand up on the table for easier reading.
“I’m so proud of you for doing this,” said Eiseman, after receiving her signed copy.
As Barbara shared her story about publishing and where the recipes all originated from, it was hard to discern where the exact beginning was.
“So, where it all started I have no idea. I just know there have been a lot of dirty dishes in my life,” said Barbara.
Working with Bob, her husband of 21 years, the pair called on longtime friends to contribute their best family recipes.
“Something told us to put it all together, so we started contacting friends and neighbors,” said Sepcich.
The finished cookbook contains “daily down to earth recipes,” says Sepcich. While the bulk of the recipes are great for daily family meals, there is also a collection of Cajun recipes that reflect Bob’s background, an award-winning recipe for Chocolate Macadamia Meltaways and a salad recipe called Broken Glass Salad, given to Barbara by Anna Spaans in 1963. Everything from appetizers to desserts is included, even a recipe for Baked Fudge Pudding.
“It’s so smooth and chocolaty. You don’t want to be alone with it,” said Sepcich.
Bob and Barbara both grew up with families who cooked together, and that remained a central part of their life together as well.
“That’s our happy time. When I have time off, we get into the kitchen and enjoy,” said Bob.
With each book that was sold, Barbara and Bob were offering a piece of their life and happiness.
“Now you can go home and cook,” said Barbara to one costumer.
