Hands free or face a fine – the time has come

- The time has come … all drivers over the age of 18 must convert to hands-free cellular devices while driving or face driving infractions and fines. It started on Tuesday and police say there will be no grace period for enforcement of California’s toughest law on using cell phones while driving. If you are an adult, your service must be completely hands-free, voice activated and operated, entirely. If you are under the age of 18, say goodbye to talking and texting while on the move in a motor vehicle at all. Minors are not permitted to be on the phone, any phone, at any time, while driving, even with a parent or other adult in the vehicle. First violations will cost, on average, $76. This includes a fine and administration fees. A second infraction shoots the fine up to just about $120. If you continue to be cited, be prepared to face increasing fines, fees and driving consequences.
The only exception, in either case, is to place calls to emergency service providers in the case of an emergency.
