The Hausauer family is hoping that good food at a good value will win the hearts of hamburgers lovers in Galt at their new Squeeze Inn for years to come.
But it isn’t just hamburgers that the Squeeze Inn is offering, a traditional breakfast menu with omelets and breakfast burritos is also available along with lunches and dinners that include steak or turkey sandwiches and tacos.
Their trademark burger is covered with melted cheese that extends far beyond the bun and is sure to require more than one napkin.
The Squeeze Inn, located at Industrial Drive and Pringle Avenue, is the sister restaurant to the Squeeze Inn located on Fruitridge Road in Sacramento. Travis and Vicki Hausauer have been the owners there for seven years. The family hopes that the new location will become as much of a local fixture as the Sacramento restaurant that has been in business for more than 30 years and enjoys sincere customer loyalty.
“I think as long as you have good food, people will support you,” said Travis Hausauer.
At the Fruitridge location, one customer’s affection for the restaurant persuaded the Food Network television show Diner, Drive-ins and Dives to profile the restaurant.
As a former TV producer, the customer created a short video telling network producers about the great food. Before long, the phone was ringing at the Squeeze Inn.
“All of a sudden, they were like the Food Network on the phone. That was a great experience,” said Hausauer. “That almost doubled our business.”
The kind of customer and loyal fan base is hoping to be repeated in Galt. The Hausauer family has been considering opening a Galt restaurant for about four years. The new development site brought the right opportunity.
Working closely with Parker Realty, Hausauer was able to direct the design and layout of the restaurant.
“Working with Parker Realty has been really great,” said Hausauer. “The main thing was being able to design it. I wanted it to be the old type restaurant with the cook out in the open. There is something about watching other people work that is kind of relaxing.”
The décor centers on a giant oak bar in the center of the restaurant with plenty of wooden barstool seating.
The rest of the eating space contains glass top tables with classic comics under the glass. Vintage lunchboxes and a few classic photos line the walls below the TVs.
The fun family atmosphere is brought to life with family and friends working behind the counter.
Travis and Vicki have four children: Brandon, Morgan, Russell and Gabby, all of whom have clocked numerous hours at the Squeeze Inn.
After working for his dad for about six years, Brandon and his new wife Katie will be taking over the Galt business. Together they have clocked long days during the construction and are looking forward to running the business together.
“It’s been a lot of work,” said Katie, regarding the 12-hour days.
But, as this new adventure begins for them, they are hopeful that Galt will show its support and enjoy a great meal.
The Squeeze Inn is open Tuesday through Thursday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. On Fridays, they’re open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Saturdays 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.
The restaurant is closed Sundays and Mondays.
