Old Car Festival this weekend
Historic McFarland Ranch to come alive with pre-World War II beauties

Be sure your vote counts at the 2008 Galt Area Historical Society Old Car Festival being held this Sunday at McFarland Ranch. This Model G “Playboy, 1929 Jordan Roadster, won for People’s Choice at the 2007 show.
- The 21st annual Galt Old Car Festival, “A Day in the Country,” is here. On Sunday this amazing annual event, sponsored by the Galt Area Historical Society, will be held at McFarland Living History Ranch at 8899 Orr Road, about three miles west of Galt.
Visitors will enjoy seeing wonderful old pre-World War II cars as well as experiencing a sense of open space on the great expanse of farmland that once was the 3,800-acre ranch of John McFarland, the man who named the city of Galt. Bring your camera for some great photos.
Vintage cars may still be registered. Registration will begin at 8 a.m., for a $15 fee. The festival will be open to the public from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The number for the door prize winner will be drawn at 2 p.m. Trophies for the cars will be awarded at 2:30 p.m.
Admission is $5 for adults is $5, $2 for children, and free for children 5 and under with adults.
Held at Galt’s own living history ranch, McFarland Ranch, the Old Car Festival is more than just a chance to see old cars at their finest. It’s also a chance to bring the entire family out for a true taste of what it was like to live in Galt in the 1800s. With entertainment on the porch, and a General Store that will feature fresh produce, homemade jams, jellies and other delightful goodies, the delicious food and beverage that will also be available make the Old Car Show the perfect day for every member of the family.
There will be raffles for wonderful prizes held every half hour, and there will be souvenir shirts with the Galt car on them (yes, there really was one), Christmas ornaments, cookbooks and novelties. Once again this year, a Peddlers’ Lane with booths selling handcrafted items and other products will be available to visitors.
Every member of the family can learn a little more about being safe around the home and neighborhood at the Sacramento County Sheriff Crime Prevention Booth, that includes an opportunity for kids who visit the Old Car Festival to be fingerprinted free of cost. Police recommend fingerprinting all kids in the event they are lost or abducted. Fingerprint identification is an excellent tool in tracking down lost kids. Every family should take advantage of this offer. It only takes a few moments and the kids think it’s a blast.
This year’s event is expected to be a great one. There’s plenty of parking space and a shaded picnic area with tables so visitors should be able to have a good time.
McFarland Ranch is easily reached from Highway 99 or I-5. Take Twin Cities Road to Christensen Road, go south to Orr Road and west (right) on Orr to the ranch (approximately two miles). Follow the signs.
