Herald Day celebration set for Aug. 2
Still doing great in 2008

The parade through “downtown” Herald is one of the premier events of the annual Herald Day celebration. Last year the Herald Store got into the spirit of the day by recreating the “porch club” that gathers at the store each day to discuss the town’s happenings for their float.
- It will all begin with a chicken and ribs dinner on Friday night and end with a good time had by all at the 2008 Herald Day celebration slated for Aug. 2.
Start the day with the annual pancake breakfast from 6:30 to 9:30 a.m., and after you grab a bite to eat, head over to the annual Herald Day parade scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. sharp.
The craft faire will be open early and all day, set up and ready for business in Herald Community Park starting at 8 a.m. Check out all of the canning and baking entries before they are judged, and make sure to register for the horseshoe tournament, a Herald Day challenging favorite by 10 a.m., with the tournament set to start at noon.
Ever the star of the show, the annual Herald Day mud volleyball tournament registration begins at 8 a.m., with play scheduled to start at 11 a.m. As always, there will be no glass, of any kind, allowed near the volleyball arena. The Herald Day celebration is proud of years of safe play and will strictly enforce the ban on glass near the volleyball area.
Bring the whole family for a roll in the mud like no other, and get dirty fun from head to toe. Whether or not you play on a team, there is plenty of mud to go around for every member of the family.
A Herald Day tradition that brings out the friendliest competitive nature in nearly every visitor, the Herald Day auction bids will begin promptly at 10:45 a.m., and with so many fabulous items to auction, the fun is expected to last well into the afternoon, so come bid on one of many fun items that typically include everything from hay and farm supplies to toys, car supplies, barbecue goods, feed, household items, art, and clothing; and no year would be complete without the surprise item everyone feels they must have – and so the bidding war will begin.
With all of the proceeds of the auction going into the Herald Community Club coffers for good works throughout the community, no dollar spent at the auction could ever be spent in vain, even if what you buy is in fact a vane, a weather vane, that is.
When you get hungry, just take a stroll through the park and find a vendor with the perfect picnic treat you love to have, or have a picnic with your family; everyone is welcome.
While you hang out and visit with old friends, or make new ones, there will be plenty of live entertainment to keep the mood a good one.
